I HATE(love) MIXTAPES (vrtclphl vrsn)

It's always been evident to me that so often, the direction one's musical taste takes is the materialization of self-fulfilling prophecy. Simply put: one is always inclined to hear a song or record and apply it's content to one's own life. Obviously, this is the cornerstone of the industry that is pop music: songs about love, life, loss, longing, etc etc... But for us music nerds, we often overlook this kind of adolescent identification with the music and have become more interested in music that challenges us (ex: Doug's love of noise/kraut/etc, my drone/post rock leanings, Seanzilla's infatuation with the nuanced New Zealand pop lineage). Fortunately though, there's still a teenager in all of us that could swear that even the most obscure song or album "was written for me."

So although the music on this little comp are a long way from Face to Face, The Mr. T Experience and Pennywise... the spirit of the self fulfilling prophecy is still implicit. These are songs that sing to me about the people I know, the people I love, the people I miss, and the people I've lost.
I guess overdramatizing this was SO NOT THE POINT... but as you know, my BEST OF YUME BITSU would not have been appreciated.

yeah, of all the mixtapes so far i was thinking that this one reflected its creator the best. not that all the mixes set-out to do that...but this one does so perfectly.

ok so, i totally just read this a month late and also realized that i totally forgot to download this and it looks really good. so, luckily, it's still available from mediafire and i'm getting it right now. i thought mine was pretty sam craighead, but i guess it would have been more accurate if it was half nut juggler, half red house painters. oh yeah, and i totally loved face to face in high school too. but pennywise always sucked, so you can eat it.
